Last updated 14 September 2026 — covers "Soiree — Black Cat Tarot" for iOS and Android

Soiree, a black cat reader, turns an original deck of 78 tarot cards and answers your question in writing. The readings are written by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. This page covers how the App works and the questions people ask most.

1. Getting started

The home screen has two ways in: the Card of the Day (one card a day, free, no AI) and Soiree's Tarot Reading (the full reading, which starts from your question, written by an AI, bought with a ticket or on the subscription).

  1. On first launch, the App explains that an AI writes the readings and what is sent when it does. Read it and agree to continue.
  2. The Card of the Day gives you that day's card as it is. It is free every day and uses up nothing, because no AI is involved.
  3. In Soiree's Tarot Reading, write down what is on your mind. Any length is fine.
  4. Stroke the deck to shuffle it, then pick one card (or three) from the fan.
  5. Soiree reads the cards and writes your reading, ending with one small thing you can do today.

Soiree's Tarot Reading is bought as a ticket or on the subscription; there is no free trial of it. Your remaining count is always shown before you turn a card. You are never asked to pay after a card is turned.

2. Every day

  • Card of the Day — one card each day. It is always free and uses up nothing, because no AI is involved; the text is prepared in advance. It is separate from Soiree's Tarot Reading and needs no question from you.
  • Journal — the cards you drew, upright or reversed, the reading text, any follow-up questions, and the date and time are kept automatically. Nothing expires. You can also look back at which cards came up most in a month.
  • Card index — the artwork and meaning of all 78 cards, readable at any time.

3. Prices

  • There are no ads.
  • There is no free trial of the readings (the Card of the Day is free every day). A subscription starts only when you choose it, and never on its own.
  • Readings you have bought never expire.
  • Prices are the Japanese store prices, tax included, and may change at the store's discretion. The current price is shown on the store's product page and on the purchase screen inside the App.
  • The sale is made through the store (App Store or Google Play); payment and refunds follow the store's own rules. For the rules of use, see the terms of use.

4. Questions people ask

What is a follow-up question?

After a reading you can ask one more thing — "what does that mean for me?" — and Soiree turns one extra clarifying card to answer. You get one with a single reading and two on the subscription. A follow-up question can be asked only on the same day as the reading it belongs to.

Where is the Celtic Cross?

It is the ten-card spread. Subscribers can use it once a day. It is not available with a single-reading ticket.

I do not want reversed cards

Turn reversals off in Settings. While they are off, every card is read upright. The card index still shows both the upright and reversed meanings, whatever the setting.

Does Soiree remember what I said before?

Yes. It keeps short notes from your recent readings, which is how it can say "the Tower came up last month as well". You can erase them at any time with Settings → Clear memory; after that, readings no longer refer back.

I paid, but nothing changed / I got a new phone

Try Restore purchases in Settings. You need to be signed in with the same Apple Account or Google account you bought with. If it still does not come back, email the address below.

How do I cancel the subscription?

  • iPhone: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Soiree → Cancel Subscription
  • Android: Google Play Store → profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Soiree → Cancel subscription

The App's settings screen links straight to that page. Deleting the App does not stop the billing. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

I would like a refund

Purchases are made through Apple and Google, so refunds go through them: use Apple's Report a Problem or the Google Play help pages. Email the address below as well and the developer will help where possible.

Does Family Sharing work?

No. Family Sharing and the Google Play family library are not supported. Purchases work on the buying account only.

Does it work offline?

The Card of the Day, the journal, and the card index all work without a connection. Soiree's Tarot Reading and follow-up questions need one; when you are offline, the App tells you before you turn a card.

A reading bothered me

Use Report this reading below the text. By default the text itself is not sent, only the reason you pick. The developer sees the text only if you tick the box to attach it.

What if the reading fails?

If Soiree cannot produce a reading, you are not asked to pay again. What comes back depends on the spread and on how the reading was paid for:

  • Drawn with a ticket — one ticket is given back.
  • Drawn on the subscriptionone of that day's three readings does not come back (you are never charged more for it).
    • If it was a Celtic Cross (ten cards)that day's Celtic Cross does not come back either (you can choose it again the next day). The Celtic Cross comes with the subscription and can be used once a day.
  • A follow-up question — the count does not come back (Soiree retries the same slot once on your behalf).

Will my journal be deleted?

Not by any expiry. It lives on your device and goes away only when you delete an entry, delete the App, or delete your account.

How do I stop using the App entirely?

Settings → Delete account erases everything on the device. Cancel an active subscription with the store first. See "Deleting your data" in the privacy policy.

5. What a reading is
