Recording a visit
I'm at the gym but “Record here” won't work
You can record when you are within about 100 metres of a registered gym and the location fix is accurate enough. Gyms are often in steel-framed buildings, basements, or upper floors, where a fix can drift by tens of metres or fail the accuracy check.
- When accuracy falls short, the app waits a few seconds and tries once more on its own. Just wait while it says it is checking.
- If it still won't budge, move near a window or the entrance and try again.
- Check that GymStamp has location access set to “While Using the App” (“Allow only while using the app” on Android). On iPhone and iPad: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. On Android: Settings > Apps > GymStamp > Permissions > Location.
Open the app when you arrive and tap “Record here”. The stamp lands the moment you tap — there is no waiting around on the spot.
I went twice in one day. Does the second visit count?
The same gym is not counted again for 4 hours after a record. This keeps double taps — and merely walking past the place — from piling up. After 4 hours, a second visit on the same day records normally.
My gym doesn't show up in the search
Long-press the map to register that spot as your own gym. Use this for a home gym or a small gym that maps don't list. Once registered, the record button works within 100 metres of it.
Stamp colours and “Verified on site”
Why is my stamp grey?
The colour of a stamp tells you what happened that day.
- Coral — one visit that could be verified on site.
- Blue — two or more verified visits that day.
- Grey — a day where your location could not be confirmed.
A stamp turns grey in cases like these. It still counts towards every number, but the record carries no “Verified on site” mark.
- A simulated location was detected. The record is not blocked — the stamp simply turns grey. While that lasts, you can't search for nearby gyms.
- You didn't go to a gym and only wrote a workout for that day. Nothing was verified, so the mark is grey.
Grey stamps count towards your all-time total in the stamp book just like the others.
Workout records
Can I log what I actually did?
Yes. You can record the exercise, weight, reps, and minutes. Write one on a day you stamped, or on a day you didn't go (a session at home, for instance). You never have to write anything. Workout records are free for everyone.
Where can I write notes?
There are three levels of note, so you can be as brief or as detailed as you like.
- Set note (60 characters) — from the sticky-note button at the right of a set row. Good for “spotter on the third set”.
- Exercise note (120 characters) — just left of the “…” on an exercise card. It stays with that exercise on that day only.
- Day note (300 characters) — the “Notes” field at the very bottom of the screen.
Anything you write is searchable from the magnifying glass on the record and stamp-book tabs, alongside gym names and exercise names. Search runs entirely on your device — nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I take my workout records with me?
Yes. Settings > “Export your log (CSV)” puts every workout record into one file you can open in a spreadsheet. The backup file (JSON) also includes your workout records alongside visit history and registered gyms. Your records are yours — you can take all of them out at any time.
Free versus the one-time unlock
There is only ever one payment. There is no subscription.

I purchased but the features are locked / I changed devices
Tap Restore purchase in the app while signed in with the same account you bought with (your Apple Account on iPhone and iPad, your Google Account on Android). There is nothing more to pay.
Changing or removing a gym (this deletes records)
On the free plan you can register one gym. If you later change or remove it, that gym's stamps, visits and workout records are all deleted. This cannot be undone.
With the one-time unlock you never have to switch: register any number of gyms and every gym's records stay. When you do remove a gym, you choose whether to keep its records or delete them.
I want to switch to a different gym
Start from “Change gym” in Settings. It goes like this:
- Tapping “Change gym” tells you what will be deleted first. Nothing is deleted at this point.
- Find the new gym and tap “Record here” while you are there.
- One last confirmation appears. Type “change” in the box to go ahead. That single step is where the previous gym's records are deleted.
On the free plan you can change gyms twice a month. If the old gym was a pin you placed on the map yourself, that pin is removed with it.
I want to remove a gym
Removing a gym also lists exactly what will disappear before asking you to type “delete” in the box. A single stray tap should never be able to wipe out your records.
With the one-time unlock you can instead choose to keep the records when you remove a gym.
Your data and your location
Where are my records stored?
Visit history, counts, registered gyms, workout records, and settings are stored only on your device. Nothing is sent to the developer's servers. See the Privacy Policy.
Can I back up or move my data?
Use Settings > Backup > “Save a backup” to write a JSON file, then pick the same file from “Pick a file to restore” on the new device. The exported file includes your workout records (exercise, weight, reps, minutes, notes) along with visit history and registered gyms. Where you keep that file is up to you.
When is my location used?
Only while the app is open and in use. The app never asks for “Always Allow” background tracking, and location access stops when you close it.
Working out whether you have arrived at your gym happens entirely on your device. The only time your location leaves the device is when you use “Find nearby gyms”: your approximate coordinates then travel through our relay server to the map service (Google). That one exception is worth stating plainly. Sections 3 and 4 of the Privacy Policy cover it in full.
Requirements
iOS 15 or later, on iPhone and iPad. An Android version is also available on Google Play.
Reporting a problem & contact
It helps a lot if you can include:
- your device model and OS version,
- the app version,
- which screen you were on and what you did.
